June 5, 6, 7, 2026 – State Games – Grand Junction

Our intre-pup lifters and coaches braved the construction on I-70 and traveled westward to Collie-rado Mesa Uni-fur-sity for the State Games.

Jimmy spent some time on Friday helping out with Project ALL STAR – a study that is being done by Special Olympics International that will track the health of Special Olympic athletes and help show how sports keep them healthy.

Saturday saw Lifters Anthony, Jimmy, Luis, Ryan, and Andy making their way to the Maverick Center where they were joined by our doggone great coaches Tom, Natalie, Jonathan and Anjelica.

While the com-pup-tition was fierce, our lifters were up to it, per-fur-ming re-bark-able lifts!

Tom was also having a ball meeting past members of the team and bouncing on a fitness ball while watching the meet. There’s a video of it in the Flickr album. There’s a link at the bottom of the page to the album.

Andy set the only PR of the day with a 175 lb bench press!

He placed Silver in the bench press, Gold in the deadlift and Gold overall.

Anthony tied his deadlift PR of 135 lbs!

He placed 6th in the bench press, 6th in the deadlift and Silver overall.

Jimmy tied his PR in the squat of 210 lbs and his PR in the deadlift of 290 lbs! Jimmy also completed all of his lifts without a single red light – 9 lifts, 27 white lights.

He placed Silver in the squat, Gold in the bench press, Gold in the deadlift and Gold overall.

Luis made all six of his lifts.

He placed 5th in the bench press, 5th in the deadlift and Gold overall.

Ryan tied his PR in the bench of 120 lbs and his PR in the deadlift of 215 lbs!

He placed 5th in the bench press, 5th in the deadlift and Gold overall.

Our coaches made sure everyone got to their platforms and keep things organized.

In all, our lifters earned 7 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Medals, 4 – 5th place ribbons and 2 – 6th place ribbons!
