June 7-9, 2024 – State Games

Our intre-Pug athletes – Andy, Anthony, Jerome, Jimmy, Luis, RJ, Ryan, T and Zach – their families, and our doggone grrrrreat coaches – Tom, Angelica, Gabe, John, Jonathan and Rebekah – doggedly braved I-70 and made their way Welsh-ward across the Rott-kies to Grand Junction and the fur-miliar surroundings of Collie-rado Mesa Uni-fur-city for the 2024 State Summer Games. They were searching for the precious medals they had heard were there to be won.

As the games got under way, our athletes showed lifting pup-fection, pursuing and crushing their com-pup-tition and doing their ulti-mutt beast with paw-some lifts. They couldn’t be stopped as they set several PRs and a few State Records!

T set a new State Record in the Squat, breaking her old State Record of 260 with a lift of 265. She then broke her old State Record of 140 in the Bench Press with a lift of 145. At Regionals back in April, T set the State Record in the Deadlift with a lift of 320 lbs – which means T set three State Records during the 2024 season! Way to go, T!

Other PRs included:

In the Squat, Zach set a PR of 225.

In the Bench Press, Anthony set a PR with a lift of 55 lbs, then set another with a lift of 65 lbs. RJ tied his PR of 145 lbs. Ryan set a PR with a lift of 55 lbs. Zach set a PR of 155 lbs.

In the Deadlift, Andy set a PR with a lift of 280 lbs. Anthony tied his PR of 115 then set a new PR of 125. Jerome tied his PR of 375, then set a new PR of 395. RJ set a new PR with his lift of 320. Ryan set a PR of 120.

In the end, our athletes worked hard and earned 12 – Gold medals, 6 – Silver medals, 5 – Bronze medals, 6 – 4th place ribbons and 2 – 6th place ribbons.

All of our athletes did a terrier-ific job and we are very proud of them!

As the com-pup-tition and cere-Mudis wound down, our athletes, coaches and families – having found the precious medals they sought – headed back Eskie-ward across the Rott-kies toward home and rest.
